Finishing up their UK tour at Barrows underground music society on the 25th of September. Pivot, a UK-French electronic duo crafting a sound that blends new wave, shoegaze, and sample-based pop blew our minds. Combining analogue grit with digital precision, their music merges cinematic atmospheres, post-punk textures, and electronic experimentation into something both immersive and immediate. Expectations of the show were blown out of the water, audience members were left struggling to put into words what they had experienced!

A twenty minute guided exploration of worlds crafted within the VR paired with live music played onstage, Pivot bring us to ask important questions about how music and art can be experienced. The control of your personal VR headset completely your own, this I felt added even more to an already layered performance as it allowed for free will and exploration in a way that each individual could find things others didn't. Pivot played with all our senses, a completely unique experience and stationary rollercoaster.

> *“The relationship between memory and music is incredibly powerful, especially the first time you hear a song,”* says frontman Roman Rappak*. “What we’ve evolved is a way for people to form a memory around a track before they hear it live. Art is often about creating a sense of detachment—by stepping away from everyday reality, you can fall in love with a song or a film. Ironically, when you return to the real world afterwards, you see it differently.”*

The pivots have chosen to champion grassroots venues and combat the ever growing crisis that faces smaller venues, with thirty plus UK venues closing permanently in the last year. All while streaming payouts remain negligible, not to mention the video game industry as a whole. Pivots have taken on the challenge of making both accessible for audiences to experience in a new and exciting way, all whilst bringing in much needed awareness for small venues. Modelling a new approach to live music and the way artists can use immersive technology to pull new audiences from their gaming chairs and into our venues.

> *The response from grassroots venues for Pivots’ immersive concert has been incredible,”* says Pivots manager Anne McKinnon. *“These spaces are the backbone of music culture, where experimentation happens and future headliners are born. This tour is a first-of-its-kind collaboration, with grassroots venues once again leading the charge for the next wave of live music experiences.”*

More than a 4D experience, Pivots are truly doing something groundbreaking. Along with this they have released their new single 'Any Means' an exploration of psychological compulsion, consumerism, and the line between theft and creation. A synth heavy paired with scratchy acoustic guitar blended over vintage Linn drum machines and live bass the single holds you within it in a audio kaleidoscope.

> “*Any Means’ is about those quiet compulsions that follow us through supermarkets, social media, relationships, and creativity itself,*” Rappak adds. “*In a world where desire is manufactured on an industrial scale and every image or sound can be copied, how much of what we do is genuinely our own choice and has ownership itself become an illusion?*”

Although the tour has ended you can still find Pivot's work on their website! Tune in soon for our interview with them, asking that all important question!
